FAQs
What is digital fabric printing at Springs Creative?
We use three digital fabric printing technologies: dye sublimation, pigment, and latex.
Dye sublimation digital printing uses heat to transfer dye onto fabrics, such as polyester, to produce high-quality images with vibrant colors. An image is printed onto transfer paper, placed face down on the fabric, then heated. The heat turns the ink into a gas that bonds with the fabric fibers, creating a permanent print.
Pigment digital printing uses ink that sits on top of the fabric rather than penetrating the fibers. This produces a more wash-resistant print with slightly less vibrant colors than dye sublimation. Pigment printing is typically used on natural fibers.
Latex digital printing uses a heat-curing process to bond water-based inks to the surface of the fabric substrate. This process offers excellent adhesion on many substrates, including vinyl, wallpaper, and textiles.
Do digitally printed fabrics fade?
Many digitally printed fabrics are highly durable and resistant to fading. The level of fade resistance can vary depending on a number of factors, including the type of ink used, the quality of the substrate, and how the fabric is cared for.
Fabrics printed with dye sublimation and pigments are typically more fade-resistant. But fabric with latex digital print offers more fade resistance from UV rays as dye sublimation inks are more susceptible to UV radiation. To help extend the life of any digitally printed fabric, always follow the manufacturer’s care instructions.
Is digitally printed fabric washable?
Most digitally printed fabrics are washable. It’s essential to follow the recommended care instructions. Most can be washed in cool water on a gentle cycle with mild detergent. Avoid using bleach or fabric softeners as these can damage the fabric and cause fading or discoloration. Lay the fabric flat to dry.
