Springs Creative Announces NC State Design Contest Winners

Springs Creative recently sponsored a design contest at NC State for College of Textiles students. Students created either a fabric design or craft kit panel with the Daisy Kingdom audience and brand in mind. The designs and trend boards were submitted to a Springs Creative panel of judges who narrowed down the field to five finalists.

Mary Beth, Kate and I traveled to Raleigh to the NC State campus to participate in the final judging. Joining us were Todd Coats, Chief Creative Officer at Capstrat, and Ellen Rohde, consultant and adjunct TATM department faculty member. The five presentations were impressive and gave those of us judging a tough decision.

Our grand prize winner was graduate student Emily Waszak with her printed fabric collection “Retro-modern Flower”. Kimberly Zapko was the first place award with her “Shabby Chic” collection of printed fabrics. Second place was awarded to Hannah Koontz for her printed collection entitled “Turtle”. Both the first and second place award winners are sophomores in Fashion Development and Production.

As the grand prize winner, Emily has won the opportunity to participate in an internship with Springs Creative. We had a great time interacting with the students and were able to stay for Threads, the senior fashion show, held later that night.

We’re looking forward our future opportunities with NC State COT!
