Quilt Market Review
May 20, 2011
Bart, our senior stylist here at Springs Creative also served as our ace reporter at the recent Quilt Market. He’s been kind enough to give us a recap of his findings last week in Salt Lake City.
Good day to all,
Let’s talk about Salt Lake City’s Quilt Market, May 13, 2011.
As usual the traditionalists win hands down. What I like to call All Americana Quilts could be found just about everywhere on the floor. I am talking about those tea stained, muddy looking navy, burgundy and creams thrown into every traditional design concept that has evolved since the civil war and before. They have a mighty following – you can’t fight what works.
Nothing could be finer then to celebrate our military forces and their faithful duty to our protection, by dedicating our patriotism. Those red, white and blues hailed throughout the show in craft, product and quilts, and understandably so.
The whole spectrum of contemporary, floral, geometric, wildlife, oriental and traditional designs could be found throughout the show. There was not a definitive color trend as the quilter to their credit, is very diverse. There seemed to be several booths where a similarity of color was very dominate. There were a lot of white open backgrounds with free motion or machine stitch application, with a large use of clean turquoise, pink, sage, and occasional accents of soft orange or maroon colored hues used in the motifs.
Everyone viewing this show, would surely have their own personal perspective that would support their individual talents. Thank God for diversity. It was a good show supported by a good number of booths. I would liked to have seen more personal quilt entries as there was a definite reduction in this year’s quilt show.
