Miss Springmaid Visits the Columbia Museum of Art!
January 31, 2012
This past Friday was a wonderful celebration of former Miss Springmaids at the Columbia Museum of Art. The night included a presentation by Steve Folkes of SCETV and a showing of the Miss Springmaid documentary that aired on SCETV this past year.
The documentary was all about Colonel Elliot White Springs and his colorful history, racy advertising and innovative mind. With all of those came the Miss Springmaid competition held to crown one young lady as Miss Springmaid. The winner was treated to a week long trip to New York City, accommodations at the Waldorf Astoria, tickets to Broadway shows, a shopping adventure to Tiffany, a make over at Elizabeth Arden and more! Imagine being a young lady living in Chester or Lancaster, SC and being treated to all of this!
The Columbia Design League hosted the evening which also had a lively panel of speakers from the University of South Carolina, Winthrop University and Ann Evans, the archivist at the White Homestead, the Close/Springs family home.
On display, were images of the racy ads that many magazines refused to publish – sometimes to the delight of The Colonel.

Thanks for the fun evening, Columbia!
