The first steel needles made in Europe were manufactured at Nuremberg, Germany, in the fourteenth century. But are thought to have been first made by the Chinese & were brought into Europe by the Moors in the Middle Ages.

The steel sewing needle was probably first made by hand in Nuremberg, Germany, about 1370, and the industry was introduced into England about 200 years later (http://www.encyclopediak.com/wiki/Needle)
