Crafting and Sewing – Not Just Your Grandma’s Hobby Anymore!
January 06, 2011
According to an article on msn.com, more crafters are selling their pieces on Etsy rather than at the traditional church bazaars. (Not familiar with Etsy? Check out the handmade goods available at etsy.com.) Patterns and designs are more modern, knitting and sewing are popular crafts and social media and clubs are all part of this new revolution. And is it just women who are caught up in this new wave of crafting? No way! Men have taken the plunge as well and are having a blast!
And, oftentimes, you’ll find that good deeds are thrown into the mix as well. Seamstress Ruth Ratke from Illinois has made a goal to sew 1000 dresses by Thanksgiving to donate to girls in Africa and the Philippines. The York County Quilter’s Guild, a local group here in Rock Hill, SC, is working on a similar project. The dresses are made from pillowcases and are simple projects to sew. For more information about this worthwhile project, go to www.littledressesforafrica.org.
Of course, at Springs Creative, we love sewers and crafters of all walks of life!
